Question 2: Limit local property tax growth (HB 1300)

Should your town limit property tax growth for its school district or districts?

A Yes vote means

If three-fifths of the voters in the places the school district serves vote Yes, then for a two-year period your school district or districts would have two limits. First, the local property tax levy (the total amount of property tax raised) could not grow beyond the prior year's amount, adjusted for inflation and new construction. Second, spending on the SAU central office (the administrative office that serves one or more school districts) could not exceed 6 percent of total school district appropriations. Bonded capital costs are left out of both limits, and the limits can be overridden as RSA 32:5-i provides.

A No vote means

No new limit is adopted. The school district budget process stays as it is.

Who pays: leans poor and middle class pay. Whose pocket it lands in: roughly even.
